Luke 21:35-36
“For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.”
Within the context of Luke 21, it appears that Jesus Christ is not suggesting that we should be self-serving and consumed with only saving our physical life, during the cataclysmic events of the true end-time. It appears that Jesus Christ is much more concerned with our development of a very personal and deeply committed relationship with the Father. Jesus came into this world, as a flesh and blood human, for the purpose of facilitating that type of relationship, through His selfless sacrificing of His perfectly lived life.
Our prayers need to take on the quality of communication that produces a very personal and deeply committed relationship. Some have compared that type of communication in prayer, as the ideal marriage between a man and a woman, who are deeply committed to one another. A deeply personal and committed marriage relationship requires much communication that is focused on the ongoing development of continual respect and love for the each other. Our honest and open communication in our prayers will grow our relationship to the level of trust, so that we will not be overly focused on our physical needs, but we will trust the Father and Jesus Christ to provide everything we need to endure until the end. It appears that the God Family desires this kind of relationship with His people.
God intends prayer to be communication with Him to develop a beautiful relationship begun through the acceptance of Christ’s sacrifice. As a product of keeping the relationship alive, we show our commitment by keeping our appointments with Him, upholding the vow we made at baptism, keeping His commandments, showing we are trustworthy by overcoming our sins.
While we work on this relationship, we are watching! We are on guard to ensure that we do not allow complacency and apathy to enter our relationship with the God Family. Many of the prophetic events illustrated in Luke 21, could cause the undeveloped or immature relationships of some Christians to suffer great lost, due to fear. It appears that Jesus Christ’s warning is to stay alert, be on guard, and pray, so that we will have the relationship required to endure until the end!
