Revelation 3:9-11
“Behold, I give of the synagogue of Satan, of them that say they are Jews, and they are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. Because thou didst keep the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of trial, that [hour] which is to come upon the whole world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. I come quickly: hold fast that which thou hast, that no one take thy crown.
Patient endurance is listed seven times, in the book of Revelation. In the letters to the seven churches, recurring phrases and themes are revealed, as they have relevance to the churches of God. “I know your works” and “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches”, are a couple of the recurring phrases and themes, in Revelations chapters 2-3. The command to repent and to be patience appears to be a message that God wants His Church to consider. These recurring phrase, themes and message are a good indicator of how important these reminders are to God’s church, especially at the end time.
Perseverance—patient endurance—is also a part of the praise that Christ gives to the church at Thyatira: “I know your works, love, service, faith, and your patience” (Revelation 2:19). As the Biblical prophecies of the end time potentially unfold, the patience of the saints is highlighted for the true Christian. This fact is accentuated In Revelation 13:9-10, where we read of futuristic world conditions that should cause us to ponder our spiritual maturity; “If anyone has an ear, let him hear. He who leads into captivity shall go into captivity; he who kills with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.”
In Revelation 13:1-8, John describes the Beast, its power, and its reign of terror. God allows the Beast to make war with the saints of God and physically kill many of them. This is a time that those saints, who are alive, will have to patiently endure. Some translations, render verse 10, “…Here is a call for the endurance and faith of the saints,” which seems to parallel with Jesus Christ, the Revelator’s, command to persevere and keep His Word, with of patience.
