Exodus 14:14-15
The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent. And the LORD said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.

At the edge of the Red Sea, with the Israelites standing in awe and fear as they witness the Egyptian army closing in on them. The Israelites, led by Moses, had just been freed from slavery in Egypt after enduring ten plagues that culminated in the death of the firstborn sons. Pharaoh had finally relented and allowed them to leave, but then changed his mind and pursued them with his army.
As the Israelites stood at the edge of the sea, with nowhere to escape, they began to panic and cry out to Moses, blaming him for leading them to their apparent doom. Moses, in turn, reassured them with the words of Exodus 14:14-15, telling them to stand firm and witness the salvation of the Lord. The dramatic scene is set against the backdrop of the vast sea, with the Egyptian army approaching in the distance, and the Israelites feeling trapped and helpless.

In this pivotal moment, the faith of the Israelites is tested as they must choose to trust in God’s promise of deliverance or give in to fear and despair. The scene captures the tension and uncertainty of the situation, as the Israelites wait to see how God will intervene on their behalf and rescue them from the pursuing Egyptians.

This verse from the book of Exodus reminds us of the power and protection of the Lord when we face challenges or adversities. It serves as a reassurance that we are not alone in our struggles, and that God is always ready to intervene on our behalf. The command to “be still” is a call to trust in the Lord’s ability to fight for us and to have faith that He will deliver us from our troubles. It encourages us to surrender our anxieties and fears, knowing that we can rely on God’s strength and guidance.
